Appetite for Change

Commences: Friday, September 24, 2010, and ends Friday, Sep 24, 2010.

24 September

Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh, Suffolk. A major conference on healthy and sustainable eating will lead into the main weekend of this year’s Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival at Snape Maltings. Entitled ‘An Appetite for Change’ and sponsored by the East of England Development Agency, Healthy Ambitions Suffolk and Waitrose, the event will take place in Aldeburgh Music’s new Hoffman Building on Friday 24th September from 9am to 4.30pm. It will be chaired by respected food writer Sheila Dillon, presenter of BBC Radio 4 Food Programme. Speakers include experts from three top UK universities.

Appetite for Change – No Time to Waste The conference takes place against the backdrop of a global food crisis. According to the United Nations, 1bn people go hungry every day. However, in the developed world too much food has resulted in an epidemic of obesity and diet-related conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and behavioural problems. Suffolk also suffers from these problems. Our objective is to find out how we can change to healthier and more sustainable diets. Speakers will set out the case for change, explore the benefits and identify practical ways to achieve it. Healthy Ambitions Suffolk will discuss the Suffolk situation and local schoolchildren will also have an opportunity to share their views.

Tickets are £20 obtainable from website
