Northampton, located 60 miles north-west of London and 50 miles south-east of Birmingham, is packed full of options for great family days out.
Enjoy the great outdoors at Abington Park, where you can find all manner of things to do and see, from two lakes to playgrounds, fitness equipment and open areas perfect for picnics. There's even a garden designed specifically for the blind, though of course all are welcome to visit.
Abington Park is on the site of a medieval village, so there's also the chance to get to grips with a bit of local history, not least at the free-to-enter Abington Museum - once home to Shakespeare's granddaughter!
On the edge of Abington Park, you'll find Brampton Valley Way, a former railway line turned park. With 14 miles to explore, it's a great spot to tire the kids out.
For more local history, head to Delapre Abbey, where kids are free to touch pretty much everything, making for a great interactive experience. The Abbey is also set in lovely grounds so you can explore to your heart's content.
If you're visiting Northampton in September, be sure to book tickets for the Sywell Classic, a fantastic two-day festival of all things motoring, both on the ground and in the air.
On rainy days out, you might like to take the kids to Boost Trampolining. With its 50 interconnected trampolines, kids will love being let loose here to burn off some energy and try out their skills.
The Pinnacle is another good rainy day option for keen climbers.
