The first of the UK's post-war 'New Towns', Stevenage is just 29 miles north of London and is great for family days out.

If you want to spend more time in the open air, check out Fairlands Valley Park, where you can sail bell and dragon boats and the six-metre GR8 climbing wall.
Perhaps the best-known local attraction is Knebworth House, the stately home that - as well as playing host to some famous music concerts - also includes a deer park, dinosaur trail, zip wire, interactive water play plus 28 acres of gardens.
Meanwhile, those into arts and crafts should check out Potstop, where you can paint pottery items such as cups, plates, bowls and animals, which are then glazed and fired ready for collection a week later.
