For a great day out, combining history with a day on the coast, Hartlepool is the perfect location.
With its fascinating maritime heritage, no trip to Hartlepool would be complete without taking in both Hartlepool's Maritime Experience and HMS Trincomalee. At the Maritime Experience, visitors can step back in time to experience life aboard a warship and on the quayside. kids will also love the Children's Maritime Adventure Centre, complete with a play ship! If you don't have time for the whole experience, simply take a tour of HMS Tirncomalee - Britain's oldest, and still standing, warship, built in 1817. Take a guided tour to make the most out of your visit.
Once the kids have had their fill of local history, treat them to a ride on the donkeys at Seaton Carew Beach. Children aged 12 and under can hop aboard a Blackberry Donkey for an old-fashioned afternoon on the seafront.
For more outdoor fun, Summerhill is the perfect place to spend a day getting some exercise and fresh air. The country park has something the whole family will enjoy, with a nature reserve and an outdoor activity centre. Take a picnic and later walk it off with an afternoon stroll, or get involved in the various activities on offer, including rock climbing, high ropes and orienteering.
Hartlepool also has plenty of good options to keep the kids entertained on a rainy day. Jump 360 and Wacky Warehouse are the perfect places for youngsters to let off some steam, while younger children will have a great time at Make Believe, a role play centre that gives little ones the chance to experience life as a vet, police officer or farmer, and much more.
