Out and about with a friend for the weekend, then how about one of three tours at the Plymouth Gin Distillery with its cocktail lounge? Or if you’re interested in history then Plymouth Hoe is packed with it, with a naval war memorial, a statue of Sir Francis Drake and a lighthouse worth visiting. Breathtakingly beautiful views of the breakwater can be enjoyed, so you can sit on the promenade sampling a Cornish ice cream with clotted cream whilst you take in the views.

A well kept secret place to visit is the Plymouth Synagogue. Built in 1762 it is the oldest Ashkenazi Synagogue still in use in the English speaking world and is situated in Catherine Street and was one of two surviving buildings there when Plymouth was flattened by bombs in 1941.

Saltram House has been run by the National Trust since 1957. A George 11 era mansion was remodelled with a library and the saloon developed by famous architect, Robert Adam. Full of treasures and intrigue, with a secret garden and a great park , Saltram is a great day out.
