Situated between Birmingham and Stafford, Walsall is a great option for family days out away from the hustle and bustle - and with an interesting history in its own right.
Walsall is well-known for its leather crafting so, of course, a visit would not be complete without a trip to Walsall Leather Museum. Not only is it free to enter, but you can see leather workers in action as they craft purses, wallets and other items right in front of your eyes. Kids can even have a go themselves after learning all about the skill in the period workshop.
If the kids enjoyed making their leather goods, they will also love Bilston Craft Gallery. Another great free, indoor option for those days out when the weather isn't so good, the gallery is located just a few miles outside of Walsall and not only has a number of great exhibitions but allows children to get hands-on as well.
Walsall also boasts plenty of active things to do to help the kids burn off some energy. Fuzzy Eds is great for younger family members, while Ace Karting Plus will get the competitive juices flowing amongst older kids - and maybe some of the adults too!
When the weather is nice, Forge Mill Farm, set within Sandwell Valley Country Park, is a lovely place for a day out. The kids will love seeing and feeding the animals, while the farm shop provides a nice bonus for the grown-ups.
